The Long Summer

‘The Long Summer’ is a chapter of the comic, preceded by Cool Off and followed by Summersets / Side B.

Episode 1

Emira stops by at the unopen diner. Sam and Zach are there, although Musa on the way to see Miriam for the summer Eid. Other than Emira, they’re fasting for Ramadan. Zach hopes to keep all his fasts that year. Meanwhile, Aria is having a bad time with the fasting. Miriam is going over some paperwork with them, until he leaves for their weekly address to Dawlat Al-Harir as oracle.

Episode 2

While Aria delivers his address, the country celebrates. Musa travels to have dinner with Miriam. Nithiya and Saesha party at a shisha bar, possibly even at Nyah’s Shisha. Omar and Emira have fish together with their family. Rumeha and Sabbah get ready to go out. Zhen, his father and his grandfather greet another family, possibly Ju’s. Cid attends a rave with a boy in his arm. Harshul brings loaves or dumplings to his family. Zarina has brought dinner to her daughter at her bedside. Sam sits alone. Leila and Zach pass through crowded streets and knock on a door in a back alley.

Episode 3

A man shows Zach and Leila inside. They wash their hands, faces and feet, and step into the heart of the Bird Mosque, a vaulted room with a large pool and a statue of Al Hadi. They wade into the water. Leila cries.
