The Promise

‘The Promise’ is a chapter of the comic, preceded by Third Time Lucky and followed by Bet On It.

Episode 1

As Zhen wakes up, his father and grandfather confront him on never speaking giving them a chance to speak to him about his mother. Zhen gets angry at them for lying to him about her and flees to work.

Episode 2

Zach and Sam are awoken early by an azaan prayer alarm, surprised to find it playing in the morning. Nithiya is having her girlfriend install a prayer alarm out of nostalgia for her home village. Neither Sam nor Zach wants to reveal that they don’t keep up with their prayers. Zach shares that he usually prays at mahgrib rather than at fajr, which inspires Nithiya to have her girlfriend adjust the alarm to go off at all five prayers. Zhen calls Zach.

Episode 3

Nithiya shows Sam an unused space in the building that hasn’t received any interest from renters. Sam offers to clean it up, in exchange for being able to rent the space and turn into somewhere she can cook.

Episode 4

Zhen complains about his family. The both talk about their respective parents who they never knew. Zach asks if Zhen is the third Farris sibling, and Zhen admits it.

Episode 5

Zach suggests Zhen’s siblings might be good people he would want to meet, but when Zhen presses, Zach lies that he doesn’t know either of them. Zhen wants to keep living his life, and Zach promises not to tell anyone.
